Drury: "Show Us You Care"
Graham Drury wants Corby Town's players to restore their pride against Stalybridge Celtic in the Blue Square Bet North tomorrow. The Steelmen were humbled 7-2 at Solihull Moors last week and also conceded six in their last home game against Eastwood Town.
And Drury feels the players owe the club, the fans and themselves a proper response tomorrow.
“It's humiliating to be conceding six or seven goals in a game. It's certainly humiliating for me,” he said.
“People are saying Solihull wasn't a 7-2 scoreline but it was because that's how it ended up.
“I would hope that the players would want to give the fans a response after last week.
“But most of all, they've got to want to do it for themselves.”
Tomorrow's game will also be the first since the announcement that David Mallinger was to become the club's new chairman.
And Drury wants his men to ensure that the positive vibe the news has gone through Rockingham Triangle is not lost.
“Now David's come on board, I hope it will blow away the clouds that have been building up over the club,” Drury continued.
“I said in the week that it was like a ray of light and we need to take that positive feeling on to the pitch.”
The Steelmen beat Stalybridge three times in all competitions last season and an extension of that run tomorrow would be the perfect response to the Solihull result.
“After the Eastwood game, we were saying that we needed a response in the next game and we got that with a great win at Harrogate,” said Drury.
“So we're looking for that sort of response again but we know it won't be easy because Stalybridge are a much stronger side.
“But I'm sure the fans wouldn't want us to just accept results like Solihull and Eastwood and just take them on the chin.
“So we'll be taking to the field and going for it because that's what the fans would expect us to do.”
